Sloped Lakefront Terrain

Blind Bay and Sorrento sit along the Sorrento (Notch) Arm of Shuswap Lake, roughly an hour and fifteen minutes northeast of Vernon via Highway 97A and the Trans-Canada. Together they make up one of the Shuswap’s most established lakefront and retirement corridors, drawing homeowners who traded city lots for waterfront acreages, sloped view properties, and quiet cul-de-sacs near the Shuswap Lake Estates golf course. Many of the properties we see here were built decades ago on rock-and-clay hillsides that step steeply down toward the water, which means the outdoor spaces homeowners actually want, a level patio, a safe stairway to the dock, a retaining wall that finally stops a slope from sliding, take real engineering, not just planting beds. It is also a region where houseboat traffic and destination tourism through Shuswap Lake Provincial Park and the surrounding marinas bring seasonal visitors through all summer, so a well-built outdoor space here does double duty as a private retreat and a place worth showing off to family who come up for the long weekend.

Shuswap Lake properties present a different design challenge than a flat valley-bottom lot. Many Blind Bay and Sorrento homes sit on grades that drop sharply toward the water, so retaining walls are often the first thing that has to be right before patios, pathways, or planting beds can go in at all.
