The Brief

Predator Ridge homeowners tend to entertain, and this backyard needed to keep pace — a place where a host could grill, plate, and gather friends around a fire without running back and forth to the house. The property called for a built-in cooking station and a fire feature positioned close enough to work as one connected space, rather than two separate outdoor add-ons.

The Approach

We planned the kitchen and fire feature as a single layout from the start, orienting the counter so the cook faces the seating rather than a wall, and keeping sightlines open toward the fire and the view beyond. Predator Ridge’s elevated, exposed lots mean wind and evening temperature swings are a real factor for outdoor living, so the fire feature earns its keep well beyond a decorative centrepiece — it’s what keeps the space usable into the shoulder seasons. Grade and drainage on a sloped resort lot also shaped where the hardscape pad could sit and how it tied back into the existing yard.

What We Built

The kitchen is built on a durable, weather-resistant frame with a stone-clad exterior and a hard-wearing countertop sized for real prep and serving, anchoring a built-in grill within easy reach of the seating area. Adjacent to it, a framed fire feature was set with matching stonework so the two elements read as one cohesive build rather than mismatched additions, with paver hardscaping tying the whole entertaining pad together underfoot.
