Fiberglass Pools: Materials & Process
Each shell is a composite laminate of fiberglass-reinforced resin with a gelcoat finish, engineered off-site to hold its structural shape under backfill and water pressure. On site, our process starts with excavation to the shell’s exact footprint and a properly compacted, leveled base bed — this step matters more with fiberglass than almost anything else, since an uneven base is the most common cause of long-term settling issues. The shell is craned or winched into place, leveled, and partially filled with water while we backfill around it in stages, balancing internal water pressure against the backfill material so the shell doesn’t shift or flex. From there we tie in filtration, plumbing, and any heating or automation equipment, then finish the surrounding hardscape — paver decking, coping, and planting beds — so the pool reads as part of the yard rather than an addition to it. Because the gelcoat surface doesn’t need re-plastering or re-tiling, the maintenance rhythm over the years ahead is noticeably lighter than a concrete shell demands.
