Plunge Pools: Materials & Process
We build plunge pools using the same shotcrete/gunite construction as our full-size pools, which lets us shape the pool to fit an irregular lot line, a sloped hillside lot, or a specific spot along a view corridor — something a pre-formed fiberglass shell can’t always do. The concrete shell is engineered to BC building code, waterproofed, and finished with your choice of plaster or tile before we integrate the coping and surrounding hardscape.
For clients using their plunge pool for cold-water therapy, we spec a chiller unit alongside the standard filtration and heating equipment, so the water can be held in a consistent cold range independent of the season or the sun. We also design the plunge pool as part of the broader hardscape — tying the coping into a paver or natural stone patio, adding a shade structure or privacy planting, and running conduit for landscape lighting so the space works day and night. Because a plunge pool needs less excavation and equipment than a full pool, most builds move from design to swimming considerably faster.
