Paver Pathways & Walkways
Residential single-family lot
Compacted aggregate base sloped for proper drainage on every walkway run
The Brief
A property like this usually comes to us with a simple, practical problem: the yard has a front gate, a side yard, a garden, and a backyard living space, but no real way to move between them other than cutting across grass or picking a way over bare dirt. This Kelowna homeowner wanted a proper walkway system that tied those zones together — something that would hold up to daily foot traffic, drain properly through wet spring weeks, and look like it belonged rather than reading as an afterthought bolted onto an existing landscape.
The Approach
Pathway work is a different design problem than a patio. A patio is a destination; a pathway is about circulation — getting people comfortably and safely from the driveway to the front door, from the side gate to the backyard, from the deck to the garden beds, without a design that fights the natural lines of the property. We started by mapping how the household actually moves through the yard day to day, then let that traffic pattern set the route, width, and curve of the path rather than forcing a straight line that looked good on paper but didn’t match how anyone actually walked it. Kelowna’s clay-heavy soil and freeze-thaw winters also mean a pathway base has to be built right the first time; a path that heaves or settles unevenly after one winter is a path that becomes a tripping hazard, not just a cosmetic problem.
What We Built
Each walkway was excavated to depth and built on a compacted aggregate base sloped for proper drainage, with edge restraints set to keep the paver courses locked in place over time — the same base-building approach we use across every paver pathway project. Pavers were laid in a running pattern sized to the width of the route, with joint sand swept in and compacted to lock the surface together. Where the path transitioned between planting beds and lawn, we set clean edge lines so the hardscape reads as an intentional part of the landscape rather than a strip cut through it. The result is a connected route through the property that homeowners use without thinking about it — which is exactly the point of a walkway done right.

Trusted By Okanagan Homeowners
“Transformed our yard to a beautiful oasis. Paver stone pathway with inset lighting is gorgeous. Decided to pull out the grass for artificial turf — I was reluctant at first until I saw the finished product. I would never sod again. Taylor was brilliant with his creative design for our privacy screen and lighting. The whole team did a fantastic job.”
