The Brief

This Lake Country homeowner already had a pool in place, but the surrounding concrete deck had become an afterthought — cracked in spots, slick when wet, and visually disconnected from the rest of the yard. They weren’t looking to touch the pool itself, just to replace the deck and tie the patio area around it into one cohesive outdoor space they’d actually want to entertain on.

The scope was specifically the hardscape surrounding the water: a full paver deck replacement plus an adjoining patio zone for seating and lounging, not a pool build from scratch.

The Approach

Pool-adjacent hardscape has to satisfy two things at once: it needs to look good and it needs to perform in a wet, high-traffic environment. In the Okanagan, that means accounting for freeze-thaw cycles that punish poorly-prepped concrete year after year, plus splash zones that get walked on barefoot. We planned the paver layout to read as one continuous surface from the pool coping through to the patio seating area, avoiding the harsh material break that so many older pool decks have between the coping and the surrounding concrete.

What We Built

We excavated and removed the old deck, then built up a properly compacted granular base engineered for our freeze-thaw climate before laying the new paver surface. Around the pool itself we used a slip-resistant paver finish suited to a wet deck, and carried a complementary paver into the adjoining patio so the two areas transition without a visual seam. Joints were laid tight and consistent throughout, and the drainage grade was set to carry water away from the pool edge rather than pooling against it — a detail that matters as much for the base’s long-term stability as for day-to-day comfort underfoot.

What Clients Say

Trusted By Okanagan Homeowners

“The work involved heavy lifting of rocks and ornaments made from cement, but I never once heard a complaint from his staff as they went above and beyond to please me. After the work was completed, Taylor returned to review it and be certain I was happy. I am extremely happy with the work that has been done.”
