Predator Ridge Evening Landscape Lighting: An Architectural Lighting Design

The Brief

Predator Ridge homeowners live inside a master-planned golf resort community where curb appeal and consistent design standards matter every bit as much as function. A property like this typically comes to us wanting the home’s architecture, stonework, and mature landscaping to read just as well after sunset as they do at noon — safe, walkable paths for guests arriving in the evening, and a lit exterior that feels intentional rather than floodlit. Many owners here split their time between Predator Ridge and elsewhere, so the request is usually as much about a home that looks cared-for and welcoming from the driveway on a Friday evening as it is about hosting friends on the patio after the sun goes down.

The Approach

Predator Ridge’s terrain is rolling and often steeply graded between the fairways and the home pads, so path and step lighting has to do real work guiding foot traffic safely across changes in elevation, not just add ambiance. Many properties in the community also fall under HOA architectural guidelines that call for warm, low-glare fixtures and discourage anything that reads as commercial or overly bright against the surrounding hillside and forest edge. We designed around both realities: low-voltage path lights spaced to keep walkways and stair transitions clearly lit without washing out the night sky, paired with uplighting on key architectural features — stone pillars, entry columns, and specimen trees — to give the home genuine depth and dimension after dark. Fixture placement also has to account for the Okanagan’s long summer evenings and short winter days: a design that only looks good at one time of year, or in one season’s light, isn’t doing its job the other eight or nine months.

What We Built

The system centers on a low-voltage LED layout, the same approach we use across our outdoor lighting projects: warm-temperature path lights along the main walkway and stair transitions, discreet well lights grazing up the stone façade and mature conifers, and accent fixtures tucked into planting beds so the hardware disappears by day and only the effect remains by night. Everything runs on a transformer sized with headroom for future zones, and fixtures were selected and placed to stay within the kind of low-glare, dark-sky-conscious standard that Predator Ridge and similar Okanagan resort communities expect from an evening lighting design. Cable runs were routed and buried along planting bed edges rather than across open lawn, and connections were kept accessible at grade so any future zone can be added or adjusted without tearing back into finished landscaping. The result is a layered look after dark — a lit path guiding guests to the door, warm architectural glow on the home itself, and just enough ambient light in the beds and tree canopy to make the whole property feel finished, not floodlit.
