The Hofer backyard combines a black timber pergola over a paver patio with a built-in fire table and seating, a strip of artificial turf, and a large decorative-gravel dog run bordered by black privacy fencing, all overlooking the surrounding valley.
Along the side of the house, a low retaining wall and rock-and-shrub border frame the lawn edge, with a flowering clematis vine trained up the fence line to soften the boundary between the yard and the view beyond it.
